Program Overview
Admission to the Criminal Justice Major
The Criminal Justice Major is a rigorous program that requires students to meet specific criteria before being admitted. All incoming Criminal Justice students are initially listed as Pre-Majors until they have completed their undergraduate requirements and have met upper division standing.
Requirements for Admission
To be admitted to the Criminal Justice Major, students must have completed 58 credits, including coursework in progress at the time of application. The following courses must be completed with a grade of C- or better:
- UF 100: Foundations of Intellectual Life
- UF 200: Foundations of Ethics and Diversity
- ENGL 101: Writing and Rhetoric I
- ENGL 102: Writing and Rhetoric II
- Foundations of Math: FM/DLM
- Biology: BIOL 100, 107, 191, or 227
- POLS 101: American National Government
- SOC 101 or SOC 102: Introduction to Sociology or Social Problems
Additionally, the following courses must be completed with a grade of B- or better:
- CJ 101: Introduction to Criminal Justice
- CJ 102/202: Introduction to Police
- CJ 203: Introduction to Courts and Sentencing
- CJ 104/204: Introduction to Corrections
Application Process
Once students have met the requirements, they can submit an application for admission to the Criminal Justice Major. The application process involves uploading an Academic Advisement Report (AAR) and designating the grades received in the required courses. The application will be processed within 7-10 business days.
