Introduction to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Boise State University is designed to combat the nursing shortage in Idaho. The program has expanded to admit 100 students per cohort for fall and spring starts.


Program Requirements

Applicants to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program must earn a grade of C or above in all pre-nursing courses and have a cumulative college GPA of 2.5 or above. The pre-nursing courses include:


  • ENGL 101: Introduction to College Writing
  • ENGL 102: Introduction to College Writing and Research
  • PSYC 101: General Psychology
  • BIOL 227: Human Anatomy & Physiology
  • BIOL 228: Human Anatomy & Physiology II
  • CHEM 101/101L or CHEM 111/111L: Essentials of Chemistry and Lab or General Chemistry and Lab
  • HLTH 207: Nutrition
  • MATH 153 or MATH 254: Statistical Reasoning or Introduction to Statistics

Application Process

The application process involves two phases. Phase I requires submitting the online application and paying the application fee. Phase II involves an interview, which gives applicants a chance to share their perspective and reasons for applying.


Admission Criteria

Admission to the nursing program is competitive, and preference is given to students currently enrolled at Boise State and Idaho residents. The average GPA of admitted candidates is above 3.0, and the completion rate is consistently above 90%.


Program Curriculum

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is a cohort model, with admitted students completing a structured 5-semester program. The curriculum includes courses in nursing leadership, health promotion, family health, mental health, environmental health, adult and pediatric care, medical and surgical care, psychiatric care, and public/community health and management.


Clinical Rotations

Nursing students complete clinical rotations at sites that include schools, district health departments, hospitals, and healthcare clinics.
