Program Overview
Introduction to the Online Degree Pathway
The Online Degree Pathway at Boise State University is designed to provide students with a flexible and accessible way to explore subjects and work towards earning a bachelor's degree without committing to a specific program. This pathway allows students to complete prerequisites, prepare for upper-division coursework, and gain experience and confidence as an online student.
How the Online Degree Pathway Works
The Online Degree Pathway provides an accessible bridge to the next step in a student's education and career. The program offers three types of courses:
- Foundations courses: Prepare students for upper-division and degree-specific coursework.
- Elective courses: Allow students to explore their interests and satisfy lower-division credit requirements towards a degree program.
- Pre-program pathways: Bridge the gap to start in a program with admission requirements, based on the number of credits completed, particular foundations courses, or a completed associate degree.
Specialized Pathways
The program offers specialized pathways to prepare students for four popular Boise State online bachelor's degrees, which require a specific number of college credits before application. These pathways include:
- Pre-Advanced Medical Imaging Pathway: Provides modality-specific training as a professional technologist.
- Pre-Business Administration Pathway: Helps students become effective, ethical leaders and advance their careers.
- Pre-Accountancy Pathway: Lays the foundation for a meaningful career in accounting and business by completing business foundations classes to qualify for upper-division accountancy work.
- Pre-Social Work Pathway: Paves the way for success with prerequisites that build a strong foundation for upper-division social work classes and field placement.
Student Testimonials
The Online Degree Pathway has led to success for many students. For example, Hannah Gayle graduated from Boise State's online Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies program in 2020. She used her bachelor's degree to get into a teaching program after not having the GPA requirement to get into Teach for America. Another student, Connor Fulton, graduated from Boise State's online Bachelor of Science in Advanced Medical Imaging program after working in the Online Degree Pathway. He found that the program gave him substantial knowledge of the fundamentals behind MRI, which has paid dividends in his career.
Program Benefits
The Online Degree Pathway offers flexibility, allowing students to work towards a degree around their busy schedules with low-cost options.
