Introduction to the Certificate in Creative Arts Technology

The School of the Arts at Boise State University is launching a new Certificate in Creative Arts Technology, available to students starting in Fall 2025. This certificate program is designed to prepare students for successful creative careers in a modern professional landscape that is integrating emerging technologies.


Program Description

The Certificate in Creative Arts Technology will create a clear path for students to learn functional technological literacies from an arts perspective. The program reflects the School of the Arts' commitment to fostering innovation at the intersection of art and technology. By providing students across the university with hands-on experience in digital tools and emerging creative practices, this program aligns with the School of the Arts mission to equip future artists, designers, and creators with the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving creative economy.


Program Details

  • The certificate was made possible thanks to support from a College of Arts and Sciences Innovation Lab grant.
  • The Innovation Lab supported faculty as they incubated new ideas for curriculum and academic programming in the college.
  • The grant supported a School of the Arts Curricular Convention, centered around the theme of emerging technology.
  • Faculty met during the summer of 2024 to discuss new technologies most impactful for careers their graduates would enter.
  • They worked on new academic programming to prepare students for those emerging technologies, including the Certificate in Creative Arts Technology.

Certificate Requirements

  • Students can add the certificate to their degree program with just 12 credits.
  • The 12 credits are spread across the four departments in the School of the Arts:
    • Art, Design and Visual Studies
    • Games, Interactive and Mobile Technology
    • Music
    • Theatre, Film and Creative Writing
