Program Overview


Central American Studies – AA-T in Social Justice Studies

The Central American Studies – AA-T in Social Justice Studies program is designed for students who have completed an Associate of Arts in Social Justice Studies (AA-T) degree. This program applies to the 2025 catalog year.


Program Requirements

All lower division General Education (GE) requirements must be completed prior to transfer. The program requires completion of the following courses:


  • CAS 100 or CAS 102 (if not completed prior to transfer) - 3 units
  • CAS 201 (if not completed prior to transfer) - 3 units
  • CAS 202 (if not completed prior to transfer) - 3 units
  • CAS 270/F (if not completed prior to transfer) - 1/2 units
  • One of the following courses: AAS 201, AFRS 204, AFRS 252, ART 112, CHS 202, URBS 250 (if not completed prior to transfer) - 3 units

Transfer Year 1: First Semester

The first semester of the transfer year requires completion of the following courses:


  • CAS 100 or CAS 102 (if not completed prior to transfer) - 3 units
  • CAS 201 (if not completed prior to transfer) - 3 units
  • CAS 202 (if not completed prior to transfer) - 3 units
  • CAS 270/F (if not completed prior to transfer) - 1/2 units
  • One of the following courses: AAS 201, AFRS 204, AFRS 252, ART 112, CHS 202, URBS 250 (if not completed prior to transfer) - 3 units Total units for the first semester: 15 units

Transfer Year 1: Second Semester

The second semester of the transfer year requires completion of the following courses:


  • Upper division CAS requirements: CAS 303, CAS 309, CAS 310, CAS 311, CAS 350, CAS 355, CAS 356, CAS 364, CAS 365, CAS 366, CAS 367, CAS 368, CAS 369, CAS 410 - 3/3/3 units
  • GE B5 Scientific Inquiry and Quantitative Reasoning - 3 units
  • Electives* - 3 units Total units for the second semester: 15 units

Transfer Year 2: First Semester

The first semester of the second transfer year requires completion of the following courses:


  • Upper division CAS requirements: CAS 303, CAS 309, CAS 310, CAS 311, CAS 350, CAS 355, CAS 356, CAS 364, CAS 365, CAS 366, CAS 367, CAS 368, CAS 369, CAS 410 - 3/3 units
  • Upper division electives in major: Two courses from ANTH 351, COMS 356, ENGL 487, GEOG 322, GEOG 350, GWS 351, HIST 463, JOUR 372, POLS 332, QS 302, SPAN 380 - 3/3 units
  • Upper Division GE from Section C or Section F - 3 units Total units for the first semester: 15 units

Transfer Year 2: Second Semester

The second semester of the second transfer year requires completion of the following courses:


  • Upper division CAS requirements: CAS 303, CAS 309, CAS 310, CAS 311, CAS 350, CAS 355, CAS 356, CAS 364, CAS 365, CAS 366, CAS 367, CAS 368, CAS 369, CAS 410 - 3/3 units
  • CAS Seminar: CAS 421 or CAS 440 or CAS 460 - 3 units
  • Upper Division GE from Section D or Section F - 3 units
  • Electives* - 3 units Total units for the second semester: 15 units Total units after transfer: 60 units

Additional Requirements

One course for the degree must have an Ethnic Studies/ES designation. If needed, select upper division electives to total a minimum of 40 units upper division overall required for the bachelor's degree.
