Chicano and Chicana Studies Program

The Chicano and Chicana Studies program is designed for students who have completed lower division General Education, the United States History and Government requirements, and lower division core requirements for this major.

Program Overview

The program applies to the following catalog year(s):

Residency Requirements

To meet residency requirements, students must complete a minimum of 30 units at CSUN:

• 24 units must be upper division
• 12 units in the major
• 9 units in General Education

Transfer Year 1: 1st Semester

The following courses are required:

• CHS 331 (meets Upper Division GE Section D1 Social Sciences) | 3 units
• CHS 345 or CHS 351 | 3 units
• CHS 365 (meets Upper Division GE F Comparative Cultural Studies) | 3 units
• CHS 380 or CHS 381 (meets Upper Division GE Section C2 Humanities) | 3 units
• Elective* | 3 units Total | 15 units

Transfer Year 1: 2nd Semester

The following courses are required:

• CHS 401 | 3 units
• CHS 445 (meets Upper Division GE Section D3 and D4 Constitution of the United States and State and Local Government) | 3 units
• GE B5 Scientific Inquiry and Quantitative Reasoning | 3 units
