Health Information Technology (HIT) Program

The Health Information Technology (HIT) program at DePaul University offers a range of courses and degree programs in health informatics, including:


HIT 421: Health Informatics

This course provides an overview of fundamental concepts of information management in healthcare, including data quality, external factors that impact healthcare data management, and information systems.


HIT 422: System Design for Health Care

This course focuses on systems design for healthcare, including database design, interface and dialogue design, usability and human factors, report design, system implementation, and system maintenance.


HIT 430: Electronic Health Records

This course provides a comprehensive overview of principles and practices of Electronic Health Records (EHR) management, including data standards and integration, interoperability and information exchange models, data security, and privacy.


HIT 440: Health Information Exchange and Networking

This course discusses electronic health information systems and their design, implementation, and application, including information security, privacy and integrity, data exchange standards, and basic principles of telecommunications and infrastructure security.


HIT 451: Accounting and Financial Management in Healthcare

This course prepares students to effectively interact with accounting and financial management staff and participate in various aspects of financial control and planning in healthcare organizations.


HIT 511: Healthcare Management in Non-Hospital Settings

This course introduces students to many healthcare services outside the traditional hospital setting and provides knowledge of the operations of such healthcare settings.


HIT 515: Healthcare Law

This course reviews the American legal system as the context within which to consider contemporary medico-legal issues and provides a legal framework for exploring healthcare management issues.


HIT 590: Topics in Health Informatics

This course provides advanced study focusing on a specific area of health informatics each quarter and may be repeated for credit.
