Program Overview

The Practice of Laser and Waterjet Cutting is a foundational course in the Digital Manufacturing Micro-Certificate program. It focuses on the use of waterjet cutting machines (cold processing) and laser cutting machines (hot processing) in the ICT Creative Workshop. Through equipment teaching and practice, students will acquire the ability to use digital manufacturing processing techniques for various materials and lay the foundation for future innovative design applications.

A: Each course will be open for enrollment three weeks to one week before the course starts. Please enroll in the course before the enrollment deadline.


Q: If the micro-credit course is combined with a semester course, can I take both?

A: No, students cannot take both the semester course and its corresponding micro-credit course in the same semester. They can only choose one.


Q: Can external students enroll in the course?

A: External students please click on the ICT course enrollment system page, upper right corner Non-school student application account, complete the registration, and then you can enter the system to enroll in the course.


Q: How do I know if I have been enrolled in the course?

A: Please check the enrollment result on the enrollment system the day after the enrollment deadline.


Q: How do I drop the course?

A: If the enrollment has not closed, you can directly click Cancel enrollment on the ICT course enrollment system. If the enrollment has closed, please email the assistant to inform them of your intention to drop the course and state the reason.


Q: What happens if I do not drop the course or am absent without reason?

A: If you do not follow the regulations to drop the course or are absent without reason, you will be cancelled from enrolling in any ICT course for two months.


Q: How do I ask for leave if I cannot attend the course?

A: If a student is unable to attend the course due to reasons, please write to the instructor two days before the class, stating the reason for the leave (please attach your name, student ID, and reason for the leave).


Q: Can undergraduate, master's, or doctoral students enroll in the micro-credit course?

A: Yes, but please note that whether the credits can be recognized as graduation credits will be decided by your department. To avoid credit disputes, please ask your department whether the credits of the course can be recognized before exemption. Graduate students are not allowed to recognize micro-credits as graduation credits.


Q: Do I need to pay tuition fees for the micro-credit course?

A: No, there is no need to pay tuition fees.


Q: Will the course have grades?

A: The micro-credit course will follow the general course teaching method, and students must pass the classroom assignments, tests, discussions, experiments, or results presentations. The instructor will certify the results, which will be marked as pass or fail.


Q: Will the course results be directly displayed on the transcript?

A: No, students must uniformly apply for exemption in the graduation semester. Please export the credit registration form from the ICT course enrollment system, and after the department's recognition and signature, the results will be displayed on the transcript. If there are special circumstances, please email the person in charge to explain (e.g., exchange students, book review preparation, etc.).


Q: How are the course hours converted into credit exemption numbers?

A: Students who complete the micro-credit course will accumulate every full 8 hours, which will be calculated as 0.5 credits. Less than 8 hours will not be calculated.
