Program Overview


Department of Marine Biotechnology and Resources

The Department of Marine Biotechnology and Resources offers programs at the Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral levels.


Language of Instruction

The department or institute offers enough English-taught core courses, and the remaining credits can be fulfilled by taking courses at other departments. There are two tracks available:


  • English track: English-taught core courses are sufficient; remaining credits may be taken from other departments. Applicants must submit an English proficiency certificate.
  • Chinese track: Most courses are taught in Chinese. Applicants must submit both English and Chinese proficiency certificates.

Language Proficiency Requirement

Applicants must meet the language requirement corresponding to the track chosen:


  • Minimum English proficiency:
    • iBT-TOEFL of 72
    • IELTS of 5.5
    • TOEIC 785
    • Duolingo 100
    • TOEFL ITP Level 1 of 543 and Speaking Test of 58
  • Minimum Chinese proficiency:
    • TOCFL Level 3
    • HSK Level 5

Required Documents

Applicants must submit the following documents:


  • Two recommendation letters
  • Study plan (including research plan)
  • Autobiography
  • Language certificates according to the chosen track
  • Optional: GRE general test scores
  • For Master's program: Master thesis or equivalent publications
