Program Overview


Student Internship Program

The Office of University Diversity & Inclusion offers a robust internship program for undergraduate and graduate students interested in advancing university programs and initiatives to enhance their professional skills. Interns will work on tasks and projects aligned with their interests and often, their educational and career goals. Our interns bring to their role a variety of skills, experiences, and interests, contributing to Cal Poly's efforts to foster an inclusive climate. They collaborate with multiple campus stakeholders to support campus and community events and provide essential day-to-day support for the Office's operations and core services.


Student Intern Team 2024 – 2025

Cesar Hernandez Diaz

Graduate Assistant Cesar is a second-year Graduate Student in the Higher Education Counseling & Student Affairs (HECSA) program. In the Office of University Diversity & Inclusion, Cesar supports event planning and coordination, including Diversity Partners Network and the HSI Symposium. Cesar manages intern tasks and schedules, making sure things run smoothly while fostering a culture of respect, inclusivity, and collaboration. By serving as a mentor and role model, Cesar helps create a supportive environment for both interns and guests, embracing a solutions-driven approach to achieve office goals.


Bryanna Gay

Graduate Coordinator, Programs and Initiatives Bryanna is a second-year Master of Public Policy (MPP) student concentrating on Higher Education Policy. As a proud Chicana, first-generation student, she advocates for equitable access to higher education through her roles as Graduate Coordinator for Program and Initiatives and TRIO Graduate Assistant. These roles allow her to uplift fellow Latinx students, analyze policies and programs through a social justice lens, and ensure future generations can pursue college because knowledge is power.


Alexis Espinoza

On-Call Events Lead & Campus OUTREACH Alexis is an Industrial Technology and Packaging major with a concentration in IT. His role in OUDI is to serve as an On-call events lead, campus outreach, and college ambassador OUDI representative. He organizes and attends boothing events while passionately representing and supporting the Latinx student community, aiming to create interactive and inclusive experiences for everyone as Cal Poly works to become an HSI.


Issac Enrique Cervantes

Web Communications Intern Issac is a second-year Graphic Communication student with a concentration in User Experience/User Interface. He is also completing a minor in Spanish and a minor in Computer Science and is on track to graduate a year early. As an OUDI communications intern, Issac assists with creating graphic designs for a variety of marketing and communication projects while also managing the Office's website content.


Jonathan Speirs

Communications Intern Jonathan is a fourth-year Graphic Communication major with a concentration in Design Reproduction Technology. In OUDI he serves as a communications intern, helping to create eye-catching compositions and assist with social media communications.


Ketzali Maciel-Jimenez

HSI STUDENT INTERN Ketzali is a first-year transfer student majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Management and Human Resources. In her role, she is dedicated to helping OUDI through outreach, event coordination, and her work with the Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) initiatives. Not only is she committed to creating inclusive spaces where all students feel seen and valued, but also to foster a diverse campus community through her work with OUDI and beyond.


Nailah DuBose

Black Student Success Initiatives Intern Nailah is a fourth-year student majoring in Psychology with minors in Communication Studies and Sports & Exercise Studies. In OUDI, she serves as the liaison for the Black Student Success Initiatives and the Multicultural Programming Grant and assists with partnerships with Texture, Race Matters SLO, and Fortune Schools of Education.


Zoila Kanu

BEACoN liaison & student lead Zoila is a fourth-year Computer Science major. In OUDI she serves as a student lead liaison for the BEACoN Research Scholars program providing a space for students to explore research opportunities within and outside their major while also facilitating mentor and mentee bonding between students and faculty.
