Program Overview

Construction Management Program

The Construction Management (CM) program at Cal Poly combines the science of building with the principles of engineering and management practices of business to establish a unique set of skills and knowledge necessary to manage the risks associated with budget, schedule, quality, and safety on construction projects.

Program Overview

Cal Poly CM students are exposed to every size and scope project as they move through the program's unique integrated curriculum. From small residential developments to large hospitals, convention centers, and sports stadiums, to mega dams, airports, and infrastructure projects, every sector of the industry is covered—residential, commercial, heavy civil, industrial, and environmental.

Career Opportunities

The program prepares students to work toward leadership roles across the construction profession, from superintendent and jobsite management type roles for those preferring a more "hands on" career path, to project management type roles for those who enjoy bigger picture oversight activities, and as their careers progress, business development and corporate leadership roles.

Curriculum and Industry Support

Each course within the curriculum benefits from tremendous industry support. In addition to regularly arranged field trips to some of California's most exciting construction projects in San Francisco and Los Angeles, CM professors also arrange special guest lectures and tutorials to be delivered by industry leaders on a regular basis. Students benefit tremendously from these "professor-practitioner educator" partnerships by using real-life project challenges as the backdrop for in-class lectures, activities, and assignments.
