Program Overview

Introduction to the Program

The Sistema de Soporte a las Políticas del ODS 6 (SSP-ODS) is an online, free system for professionals and policymakers interested in producing reliable, systematic evidence for the policies of the Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6). This online course provides the necessary training on how to use the SSP-ODS system to produce critical evidence for achieving SDG 6.

Program Overview

The SSP-ODS system has been developed as a collaborative resource that can be used by water professionals and policymakers working in national teams or independently. From 2016 to 2018, the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment, and Health, in association with other UN agencies and national partners from the Republic of Korea, Ghana, Tunisia, Pakistan, and Costa Rica, investigated options to support decision-making and policymaking in situations with limited data on water and sanitation.

Program Components

The SSP-ODS system consists of six critical components developed around an evidence framework. Each critical component presents a perspective on priorities, needs, and gaps related to helping policymakers make decisions:

  • Desarrollo de Capacidades (Capacity Development)
  • Financiación (Financing)
  • Gobernabilidad (Governance)
  • Integración de Género (Gender Integration)
  • Reducción del riesgo de desastres (Disaster Risk Reduction)
  • Resistencia e Integridad (Resilience and Integrity)

Course Details

The online course has been developed to provide training on the use of the SSP-ODS system. The course consists of modules that include videos, readings, assessments, and discussions. Participants will be able to access the SSP-ODS online, navigate through its pages and critical components, and use the system to generate and analyze evidence on national progress and the conducive environment for achieving SDG 6.

Target Audience

The online course has been developed for policymakers, professionals, and researchers focused on water from all countries. However, as the SSP-ODS is based on six critical components, any professional, researcher, or policymaker working on sustainable development goals can make good use of the system.
