Program Overview


Master of Architecture (MArch) Programme

The SUTD's Master of Architecture (MArch) programme offers a future-forward professional degree programme, highlighting design and research for sustainability and the digital transformation of the architectural profession.


Programme Overview

The programme launches the careers of leaders in architecture by emphasising independent critical thinking in a thesis project, supported by close collaborations with faculty on cutting-edge research. Our students have a track-record of international awards and recognitions thanks to a curriculum that builds a unique design and technology skillset and supports for student-led innovation.


Programme Structure

The MArch programme is a one-year programme, that builds on a 4-year undergraduate programme, and is open to all students with 4 years of university education in architecture. Graduates earn a prerequisite degree for professional registration in Singapore.

  • 20.501 Graduate Studio ASD (Term 9, 21 credits)
  • 20.511 Thesis Preparation ASD (Term 9, 9 credits)
  • 20.512 Thesis ASD (Term 10, 30 credits)
  • 20.514 Professional Practice I ASD (Term 9, 9 credits)
  • 20.515 Professional Practice II ASD (Term 10, 9 credits)
    • Elective/Technical Elective courses:
      • 20.521 Architectural Robotics (Term 9, 10, 9 credits)
      • 20.522 Social Architecture: Theory and Practice (Term 9, 10, 9 credits)
      • 20.524 Paradigms of Adaptation (Term 9, 10, 9 credits)

Admission Criteria

Applicants with 4 years of university education in architecture may apply for admission to the MArch programme. Applicants with only 3 years of formal university education in architecture may apply for admission to the MArch two-year track programme.

The SUTD's Master of Architecture programme is accredited by the Board of Architects Singapore.

Thesis

Students may choose to collaborate on multi-year themes or pitch their own thesis ideas in open LABS. Students may also choose to develop an independent thesis topic with an individual advisor.


Structured Internship

A strong foundation in professional experience for all students is established in a 16-week structured internship which begins the programme. SUTD places our students with leading firms in Singapore and facilitates valuable professional advising and networking opportunities.


Application Process

After the closing date, all applications will be passed to the Admission Panel for consideration. Some applicants may be required to attend an interview. Upon receiving the Admission Panel's recommendations, ASD pillar will put up the list for approval before informing applicants of the outcome via email.
