Course Overview

Data Science for Business Decision is a stackable course that provides an understanding of the end-to-end data science lifecycle, from identifying and understanding business problems to making data-driven decisions. The course covers various aspects, including performing data analysis, applying basic statistical techniques, and machine learning algorithms to extract insights.

Course Objectives

• Data preparation, including cleaning, enriching, and validating data through statistical approaches.
• Analyzing data with multiple linear regression and logistic regression, and evaluating model performance.
• Developing visualizations and dashboards to effectively communicate key analysis results and insights.

Course Description

This three-day course is part of the ModularMaster Certificate in Data Science & Artificial Intelligence programme. It concludes with a comprehensive project that demonstrates the application of learned skills in a real-world scenario.

Target Audiences

This course is suitable for participants looking to build a foundation and skills towards a data-related role and to solve day-to-day problems using data analytics.

Course Structure

Day 1

• Data Science Lifecycle (from business problem to data-driven decision)
• Data Preparation – Data cleaning – Extracting text, converting to numeric, splitting text, removing extra spaces, combining cell values, dealing with dates
• Data Preparation – Data enrichment – Performing VLookup using dictionary
• Data Preparation – Data validation – Sample vs population, measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion, moments of distribution, normal distribution, Quartile-Quartile plot, correlation analysis, T-test

Day 2

• Data Science Modelling – Regression – Multiple linear regression, interpretation of regression results.
• Data Science Modelling – Regression – Multicollinearity, correlation matrix, variation inflation factor, evaluation metrics using MSE, RMSE, and MAE
• Data Science Modelling – Classification – Logistic regression, evaluation metrics using confusion matrix, accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score, true negative rate, false positive rate, ROC curve, and AUC value.
• Data Visualisation, Business Decision – Creating visuals and dashboard from Excel table, Steps to data storytelling with dashboard.

Day 3

• Project consultation
• Project presentation

Entry Requirements

• Participants should preferably have passed mathematics at GCE 'O' Level or equivalent.
• Participants should preferably have basic knowledge of statistics.
• Participants should be conversant with basic IT skills such as software installation, file management, and web navigation.
• Participants should have basic familiarity with Microsoft Excel: using built-in functions to perform some calculations.
• Participants are required to bring their laptops.
