Department of Mechanical Engineering
Program Overview
Introduction to the Department of Mechanical Engineering
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at NTUST (formerly National Taiwan Institute of Technology) was established in 1975. The department provides four-year and upper two-year undergraduate programs, aiming to train highly skilled personnel for Taiwan's emerging technological industry.
History and Development
When the Graduate School of Engineering was established in 1979, the department began to offer a Master of Science program. This was followed by the introduction of a doctoral program in 1986. The primary goal of the department is to nurture modern mechanical engineers.
Teaching Units and Curricula
Following the specializations of the faculty, the Department of Mechanical Engineering is divided into five teaching units:
- Design and Mechanics
- Manufacturing
- Thermal Science and Fluid Mechanics
- Control Systems
- Materials In addition to these units, the department offers six well-organized interdisciplinary curricula. These curricula enable undergraduates to smoothly integrate into the job market of the advanced technology industry upon graduation.
Program Objectives
The department's objective is to provide students with a comprehensive education in mechanical engineering, preparing them for successful careers in the field. By offering a range of programs and specializations, the department aims to meet the needs of the emerging technological industry in Taiwan.
