Program Overview


Introduction to the PROFS Research School

The PROFS Research School, Praktiknära skolforskning (PROFS), is a collaborative effort between Luleĺ University of Technology, Boden Municipality, Kiruna Municipality, Luleĺ Municipality, Skellefteĺ Municipality, and Region Norrbotten.


Program Overview

PROFS commenced in January 2019 with eight doctoral students in the subjects of English with a didactic focus, mathematics and learning, pedagogy, and Swedish with a didactic focus. In October 2021, a new cohort of PROFS began, with the admission of twelve additional doctoral students. The research school was expanded to include the subjects of physics, history, and political science.


Purpose and Focus

The purpose of the PROFS research school is to contribute to knowledge development in relation to school/preschool and teacher education. A common thread among all doctoral students within PROFS is that their research projects address practice-related issues based on the school's/preschool's mission, teacher education activities, or the school system as a whole.

The research school has a focus that is well-suited to the current time and can serve as a hub in the work of developing practice-related school research. The subjects included in the program are:
