Why Choose This Course

The Certificate in Supervision is an exciting new course delivered at Wrexham University, as part of a developing programme of CPD. Drawing on the BACP supervision training curriculum, this qualification will be led by teaching staff with over 20 years supervision experience. A combination of theory and practice, encompassing the latest research.

Key Course Features

  • This level 6 qualification will enable you to develop your counselling practice
  • The teaching approach involves discussion of topics amongst the participants and teaching staff, allowing for the growing 'internal supervisor' to be heard.
  • The safe space provided for the delivery of the course includes the addition of small, new purpose-built rooms, suitable for triad work.

What You Will Study

This Certificate is composed of two modules.

  • The theory module will give you an understanding of:
    • Maps and models of the supervision process, with a particular focus on the framework of the Hawkin's & Shohet Seven Eyed model of Supervision.
    • How to establish an effective working alliance
    • Ethical and legal responsibilities of supervisory practice, to include contracting, risk assessment, professional record keeping and issues around boundaries.
    • The different skills needed for individual and group supervision
    • The awareness needed when working with EDI
  • The practice module will enable you to:
    • Practice your developing supervisory skills in triads, as supervisee, supervisor and observer, where you will also give and receive feedback.
    • Experience group supervision and experiment with creative methods as a shared process, using resources from both teaching staff and participants
    • Deepen your skills to self-evaluate the supervisory process

Entry Requirements & Applying

  • Level 5 qualification in Counselling and current member of a recognised governing body.
  • 450 hours of supervised counselling practice.
  • Successful application will be based on a secured clinical placement and supervision already in place

Teaching & Assessment

The teaching will be a mix of lectures, seminars, skills workshops, experiential and creative tasks, presentations, audiovisual material, and placement. The teaching of online and telephone supervision will be taught online. You will be assessed by 4,000-word assignment and poster presentation. Evidence of learning will also be assessed via a portfolio of the clinical supervision placement, to include no less than 15 hrs of supervision practice and 5 hours of supervision of the placement supervision.
