  • Other areas that require a balance of research and professional skills

Why Akron?

The program, started by practitioners for practitioners, has been educating thousands of in-service professionals in various stages of their careers for 50 years. The faculty understand the demands on students' time because they have been there. Whether students are traditional high school graduates, experienced professionals, or active or retired military service members, the program will work with them to create their own path to success.

Cohort Model

The online program uses a cohort model, meaning students will take all of their first- and second-year courses with the same group of students, fostering a sense of community and improving their success in the program and after graduation.

Rankings

UA's online criminal justice degree program is ranked 11th in the country and second among Ohio universities according to intelligent.com's 2024 rankings.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

The program blends hands-on, technical, and tactical experience with research and theory, helping students translate their skills into a successful and productive career. The faculty have deep roots in the local criminal justice system, enabling them to create connections to help students accomplish their objectives.

Scholarships

In addition to various scholarships offered by the University and the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences, students can also receive scholarships intended specifically for criminal justice students.

Time to Degree

As an associate's degree, this program will typically take a full-time student 4 semesters, or two years, to complete. The program works with military students to reduce the number of credits required to complete the program through prior learning assessments.

Department of Criminal Justice

The Department of Criminal Justice offers a comprehensive education in criminal justice, providing students with a solid foundation for careers in the field.
