Program Overview
Introduction to Learning Communities
Learning Communities are groups of students who take two to four classes together during their first semester, focusing on a specific theme, academic major, or interest. These communities are designed to ease the transition into college, build connections, and form study groups.
Objectives of Learning Communities
The primary objectives of Learning Communities include:
- Easing the transition into college
- Building connections and forming study groups
- Experiencing intentionally designed activities and opportunities
- Exploring majors or common interests with peers
Availability of Learning Communities
There are more than 40 learning community opportunities available for students to explore.
Living-Learning Communities and Themed Housing
Living-Learning Communities (LLC) and Themed Housing offer students an enhanced residential experience through specialized programs. These programs provide:
- Increased faculty and staff contact outside the classroom for living-learning communities
- Greater academic support opportunities
- A greater connection to the University
- The opportunity to build lifetime friendships
Types of Living-Learning Communities and Themed Housing
A variety of LLCs and Themed Housing opportunities are available, including but not limited to:
- Outdoor Adventure
- ROTC
- Business
- Pre-Med
These opportunities cater to hundreds of students each year, providing a diverse range of experiences tailored to different interests and academic pursuits.
