Introduction to the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship

The International Chinese Teacher Scholarship is a program designed to support the development of Chinese language teachers and other advanced Chinese language professionals around the world. The scholarship aims to provide financial assistance to in-service Chinese language teachers and young students who aspire to pursue a career in Chinese language teaching and related fields.

Scholarship Coverage

The scholarship covers:


  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation fees
  • Living expenses (basic living allowance, paid monthly)
  • Comprehensive medical insurance

Living Expenses

Living expenses are provided as a basic living allowance, paid monthly. The payment schedule varies depending on the program:


  • One-semester research students: 5 months
  • One-year research students: 11 months
  • Full-scholarship students: 12 months per year
  • Partial-scholarship students: living expenses are not included

Application Requirements

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following basic conditions:


  • Be a non-Chinese citizen
  • Be friendly to China, have no criminal record, and abide by Chinese laws and regulations
  • Be physically and mentally healthy, with excellent academic performance
  • Have a strong interest in pursuing a career in Chinese language teaching and related fields
  • Be between 16 and 35 years old (as of September 1, 2024), with some exceptions for in-service Chinese language teachers (up to 45 years old) and Bachelor's degree applicants (generally not exceeding 25 years old)

Additional Requirements for Specific Programs

  • For Bachelor's degree applicants in Chinese International Education: high school diploma, HSK (Level 4) score of 210 or above, and HSKK (Intermediate) score of 60 or above
  • For one-year research program applicants in Chinese Language and Culture: HSK (Level 4) score of 180 or above, and HSKK (Intermediate) score of 60 or above

Application Process

Applicants must submit their applications through the official website of the Center for Language Education and Cooperation. The application deadline is May 15th for September intake, and recommended institutions and receiving universities must complete their review by May 25th. Applicants should continuously check the application progress, review comments, and scholarship evaluation results (announced approximately three months before enrollment). Successful applicants will confirm their admission with the receiving university, print their award certificate online, and register for classes according to the university's admission notice.
