PGY-1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center is recognized as a national leader in residency and fellowship training, including one of the oldest accredited community pharmacy residency programs in the country.

Overview

Our multi-site community-based pharmacy residency program is administered by UT Health Science Center and conducted by our affiliated pharmacy practice sites. As a resident, you will spend your year at one of our pharmacy residency sites across the state of Tennessee. These sites are located in one of the following regions: Memphis, Nashville, and Knoxville.

Schedule

Residency schedules are set by the residency site, in coordination with the UT Health Science Center. Residents will be expected to be within the practice site a minimum of 50 hours per week. Additional time outside the practice site may be required to achieve the objectives of the program.

Responsibilities

1. A minimum of 2/3 of time spent in direct patient care (MTM, Immunizations, Point-of-care Testing, Health Coaching, and others)
2. A maximum of 20% of time in medication distribution (e.g. staffing)
3. Mentored development of a new or improved clinical patient care activity
4. Mentored development of a research project, including a podium presentation of results and submission of a manuscript for publication
5. Completion of a teaching certificate program
6. Participation in a structured leadership and personal development program
7. Attending national and regional meetings at the discretion of your site preceptors

Benefits

• Residency Stipend: $47,476
• Health Insurance: The cost of insurance depends on coverage.
• Personal and Sick Leave: 10 days
• Educational Leave: A travel allowance of $3,000 per resident per year. Expenses over this must be funded by the resident or residency site. Interview days will be granted.

Residency and Fellowship training sites in Tennessee are strengthened by affiliations with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy. The College is ranked in the top 20 colleges in the U.S. and has the most board-certified pharmacy faculty members in the nation.
