Program Overview

Introduction to the Summer School Program

The Institute of Communication Studies, Communication University of China, the School of Journalism, Yunnan University (College of International Communication of South and Southeast Asia), and the Sub-Committee of Journalism and Communication of South & Southeast Asian University Network are collaborating to hold the second summer school for postgraduate students. This program aims to reinforce the development of an internationally renowned academic system with distinctive Chinese characteristics, deepening the understanding of evolving international communication practices and theories.

Program Objectives

The summer school seeks to:

• Cultivate the abilities of young scholars and students to comprehend, explore, and effectively navigate the dynamic theories and practices of international communication.
• Enhance their understanding of the broader social structures and contextual factors that shape these dynamics.
• Contribute intellectual strength to the construction of China's international communication capabilities.

Program Details

• Duration: August 13 to 21, 2023
• Location: Kunming, capital city of Southwest China's Yunnan province
• Fees: No fees will be charged to students, but expenses on transportation and accommodation should be paid by themselves.

Recruitment Requirements

• Doctoral and master's students in relevant majors from Chinese and foreign universities
• Young scholars under the age of 40 who are currently employed

Program Structure

• Lectures by Chinese and renowned foreign scholars on the most updated theories and practices in international communication
• Training and instructions on mainstream and advanced research methods in the field of international communication
• Courses, seminars, and special activities to increase research interest and theoretical level of young scholars

Graduation Requirements

• Each student needs to complete the course and seminar tasks before being granted a certificate of graduation from the 2023 Summer School of Most Updated Theories and Research Methods on International Communication (in South Asia and Southeast Asia)

• Acceptance notifications will be sent out before July 5, 2023
