Introduction to the 3+2 Project with the University of California, Irvine

The University of California, Irvine (UCI) and our institution have established a collaborative program aimed at fostering high-level internationalized talent in engineering. This 3+2 project allows students to earn two degreesa bachelor's degree from our institution and a master's degree from UCIwithin five years.

Program Overview

• The program is designed for engineering students who aspire to pursue advanced degrees.
• Students will spend three years completing their undergraduate studies at our institution, followed by two years at UCI.
• During their first year at UCI, students will take specific engineering courses and have the opportunity to work on research projects under the guidance of UCI faculty members.
• Students can also take 2-3 graduate-level courses that can be credited towards their master's degree.
• Upon completion of the second year at UCI and meeting the requirements for their field of study, students will be awarded a master's degree from UCI.
• There is also an opportunity for students to apply directly for a Ph.D. program during their first year at UCI. If accepted, UCI will provide tuition and a monthly stipend.

Admission Requirements

• Major in an engineering field (as determined by our institution's college).
• Completion of three full academic years.
• Minimum GPA requirement: 3.3/4.0.
• English proficiency: iBT 85 / PBT TOEFL 550, or IELTS 7.0.

Program Fees

• First year (administered by UCI's Continuing Education academic program): approximately $33,000.
• Second year: approximately $36,000.
• Living expenses can range from $18,000 to $24,000 per year. If a student is accepted into a Ph.D. program, they will be provided with a scholarship and tuition.

Application Procedure

1. By the end of November 2024: Eligible engineering students apply.
2. December 2024: UCI conducts online interviews with applicants.
3. January 2025: Applicants receive admission results.
4. By February 28, 2025: Students confirm their participation.
5. April 2025: Students complete the I-20 online application, including transcripts, class ranking, TOEFL or IELTS scores, and a statement of intent for their first year of study at UCI.

Program Schedule

First Year

• UCI's first-year study plan must be approved by our institution's college.
• Start date: Late August or early September 2025.
• Summer courses: Scientific writing and optional GRE preparation.
• Minimum of 12 units of coursework per quarter.
• Possible elective advanced design courses.
• Accumulating a GPA of 3.5 or higher allows for the option to take up to three UCI graduate-level courses.
• Submission of online graduate application, including GRE scores (if required), before the college's deadline.

Second Year

• Completion of UCI's first year and receipt of a bachelor's degree from our institution.
• Minimum of 12 units of coursework per quarter.
• Maintenance of a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Fulfillment of all degree requirements leads to the awarding of a master's degree from UCI.
