Introduction to the B.S. in Human Development Program
The Human Development program is housed in the Department of Human Development & Psychoeducational Studies (HDPES) within the Howard University School of Education. This program is ecologically oriented and focuses on the study of individuals and families from a multidisciplinary perspective. Students may choose to concentrate on infancy, childhood, adolescence, or adult development.
Program Overview
The B.S. in Human Development offers two pathways: a traditional in-person program and an online degree completion program. The traditional program requires 120 credit hours, while the online degree completion program requires 60 credit hours and is designed for degree seekers with at least 60 earned credit hours from any American university.
Traditional In-Person Program
- The program focuses on developmental processes throughout the life-cycle and interpersonal relationships within the context of the family and other human/environmental settings, with special reference to African-American and underserved populations.
- It offers an Honors Program, providing the opportunity for students to enhance their research skills.
- A 5-year accelerated dual degree program with a B.S. and M.S.W. in Human Development is also available.
Online Degree Completion Program
- This program is a pathway to earning a bachelor's degree for those with at least 60 earned credit hours.
- Program requirements can be found through the Office of Digital and Online Learning.
