Program Overview


Master of Divinity/Master of Business Administration

The Master of Divinity/Master of Business Administration (MDiv/MBA) degree program is offered by the Howard University School of Divinity (HUSD) and School of Business (HUSB). It is tailored to meet the needs of today's leaders who wish to gain a strong theological education and management education to enhance their effectiveness in ministry, business, non-profit, and public sector careers.


Program Overview

By combining the disciplines, students can earn both degrees in less time than completing the degree separately.


Admissions Requirements

Applicants must meet the admissions requirements for the Master of Divinity and the Master of Business Administration degree for the respective schools. Due to the sequential nature of the dual degree program, applicants will only be admitted in the fall semester, and must be full-time students.


Additional Requirements for Master of Divinity Students

  • Must declare that intention by submitting a full application to the MBA Program at the time of initial MDiv application and no later than the end of the fall semester of the second year of enrollment in the MDiv Program.
  • Submit current scores for the Graduate Management Administration Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
  • Have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0, and if already admitted at HUSD, a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Students admitted to the dual MDIV/MBA who have not completed a calculus course will be required to take the School of Business "Foundations of Analysis" course once enrolled in the MBA Program.

Additional Requirements for Master of Business Administration Students

  • Must declare that intention by submitting a full application to the MDiv Program at the time of initial MDiv application and no later than the end of the first fall semester in the MBA Program.
  • Be in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 as a current MBA student.
  • Have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75, and if already admitted at HUSB, a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Degree Requirements

Students seeking to earn the MDiv and MBA degrees concurrently will be able to complete the program in four years. Students will first complete two years of core courses in the School of Divinity. In the third year, MDiv students will enroll in the School of Business to complete a one-year (i.e. two semesters and one summer) MBA Curriculum and then return to the School of Divinity to complete the Program.


Taken separately, the MDiv degree is 81 credits and the MBA is 60 credits. The School of Divinity classes are derived from the regular curriculum and totals 72 credits. The School of Business classes are derived from the regular MBA core curriculum and totals 39 credits. The Dual Degree MDiv/MBA requires a total of 111 credits, which may be completed in four years of full-time study.
