Howard University Advanced Placement Summer Institute

The Howard University School of Education is known for its educator preparation steeped in methods to effectively teach diverse populations. Centrally located from six large urban public and public charter school districts in Washington, DC, Southern Maryland, and Northern Virginia, the institute anticipates a high interest in its programs beyond teachers in the local area.


About APSI at Howard University

Teachers who attend the APSI at Howard University will gain knowledge in culturally-affirming instruction that facilitates student success via plenary sessions. Attendees will also have the opportunity to take field trips to the Library of Congress, embassies, and other policy agencies in the District of Columbia to explore free resources they can use in the classroom to enhance the learning experience for AP students.

APSI 2026 Tuition

The tuition for the institute includes the cost of instruction and all course materials. The early-bird APSI 2026 tuition rate is $850 through May 1. The regular APSI tuition rate of $900 applies from May 2 through July 17.


APSI Participant Grants 2026

The College Board is offering financial support to qualifying teachers for the 2026 AP Summer Institutes through participant grants.


Travel and Accommodation

Howard University has hotel partners to accommodate lodging needs. Visitor parking is available on the Howard Center Lot at a rate of $10/day. Metered parking is also available on the streets surrounding the campus. Public transportation via DC Metro bus or rail is highly encouraged.
