Program Overview
Community Development Major
The Community Development Major is a comprehensive program that equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and address the complex issues surrounding community development.
Requirements for the Major
To complete the Community Development Major, students must fulfill the following requirements:
- ECON-001 Principles of Economics I (3 credits)
- ECON-002 Principles of Economics II (3 credits)
- ECON-138 Seminar in Community Development (3 credits, offered only in the fall)
- ECON-188 The Economics of Black Community Development (3 credits)
- Prerequisites:
- Undergraduate level ECON 001 with a minimum grade of C or T
- Undergraduate level ECON 002 with a minimum grade of C or T
- Prerequisites:
- ECON-180 Statistics for Business and Economics (3 credits)
- SOCI-111 Sociological Methods (3 credits)
- SOCI 140 Urban Sociology (3 credits, offered in the fall)
- POLS-007 Introduction to Black Politics (3 credits)
- POLS 150 Internship or SOCI 079 Internship or ECON 095 Internship (6 credits)
Additional Requirements
In addition to the above requirements, students must also complete one of the following courses:
- Allied Health NUTR 183, Community Nutrition (offered in the fall and spring)

Comprehensive Exam
To graduate, students must also pass a comprehensive exam as a junior or senior.
