Program Overview
Economics Major
The Economics Major is a comprehensive program that requires the completion of thirty-seven (37) credits in Economics. The program is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in economic theory, statistics, and applied economics.
Core Courses
All majors must complete the following core courses:
- ECON-001: Principles of Economics I (3 credits)
- ECON-002: Principles of Economics II (3 credits)
- ECON-170: Intermediate Microeconomic Theory (3 credits)
- ECON-171: Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory (3 credits)
- ECON-180: Statistics for Business & Economics (3 credits)
- ECON-184: Introduction to Econometrics (3 credits)
- MATH-026: Applied Calculus (4 credits)

General Education Requirements
All majors in Economics must also fulfill the General Education Requirements, which include:

English Writing Course
The English Writing Course must be chosen from:
- Intermediate Composition (English) (ENGL-005, ENGL-006, ENGL-007, ENGL-011)

Philosophy
One course should be chosen from:
- PHIL-051: Principles of Reasoning
- PHIL-053: Scientific Method
- PHIL-055: Introduction to Philosophy
- PHIL-057: Introduction to Ethics
- PHIL-159: Knowledge and Value
Physical Education
Must include:
- Health
- Swimming
- and two electives
African American Cluster
One course must be chosen from:
- MUTP-100: Blacks in the Arts
- AFRO-005/006: Afro American Studies
- ENGL-054/055: African American Literature
- HIST-005/006: Introduction to Black Diaspora
- POLS-168: Pan-Africanism
- AFST-101: African World: Introduction to Contemporary Africa
Divisional Studies
Students must complete the Divisional Studies requirement from Humanities, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences.
Foreign Language Requirement
For all majors in economics, the requirement of fourteen (14) credit hours consists in the completion of four (4) semesters in sequence of one foreign language, ancient or modern, or the equivalent.
Senior Comprehensive Exam & Portfolio
All students are required to take and pass a comprehensive examination in their major as well as submit an approved portfolio.
Senior Comprehensive Exam
The economics senior comprehensive examination is designed to test the basic knowledge in general economic theory and statistics.
Senior Portfolio
All graduating students will be required to have a portfolio on electronic record with the economics department, which consists of an administrative record and a content record.
