Program Overview


Introduction to the Beach EDGE Program

The Beach EDGE program is a combined Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice and Master of Science in Emergency Services Administration. This program allows students to complete the requirements for both degrees, with the opportunity to double-count up to 9 units (3 courses) toward both their B.S. and M.S. degrees.


Program Requirements

  • Criminology & Criminal Justice, B.S.: 61 units
  • Emergency Service Administration M.S.: 30 units
  • Double Counting of Courses:
    • 3 units of required lower division core courses: CRJU 101
    • 28 units of required upper division core courses: CRJU 300, CRJU 301, CRJU 302, CRJU 303, CRJU 304, CRJU 320, CRJU 325, CRJU 330, CRJU 340 or CRJU 350
    • 15 units of any criminology and criminal justice-approved upper division electives: EMER 301, EMER 401, GEOG 471, CRJU 340, CRJU 350, or any other 400 level CRJU course
    • 3 units of required following Senior Integrative Experience options: CRJU 493 or CRJU 497
    • 6 units of required lower division cognate courses: POSC 100, PSY 100, or SOC 100

Eligibility and Admissions

Minimum Admissions Requirements

  1. Must be a matriculated undergraduate student at CSULB
  2. Completed 60 units
  3. Must be a B.S. in Criminology & Criminal Justice Major
  4. Earned a 'B' or better in CRJU 300, CRJU 301, CRJU 302, and CRJU 303 at CSULB
  5. Must have a CSULB GPA of 3.0

Application Requirements

  1. Document: Beach Edge - CCJ + MS In ESA Application
  2. Unofficial Transcripts from CSULB and all universities/colleges where prerequisite courses were completed
  3. Statement of Purpose: Discuss motivations for applying, relevant research and/or practical experiences, areas of interest in emergency management, and personal goals for earning a master's degree in Emergency Services Administration
  4. Two letters of recommendation from academics, professors, and/or professionals
