Program Overview


Introduction to the Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship Program

The Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship Program aims to provide funding for students pursuing degrees and conducting research in transportation-related disciplines.


Program Overview

The program offers funding to selected student Designees to attend the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual meeting in Washington DC. The fellowship award is based on rankings from the local Selection Panel and ranges from $1,500 to $10,000 USD.


Student Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the program, students must:


  • Be in an applicable class standing:
    • Undergraduate: Junior, Senior
    • Graduate: Masters, Doctoral
  • Be pursuing a degree in a full-time program in a transportation-related discipline
  • Have at least one full academic year remaining in their program of study
  • Conduct ongoing research in a transportation-related discipline
  • Plan to enter the transportation profession after completing their degree program
  • Not have participated in DDETFP for two consecutive years from the same Institution of Higher Education (IHE)
  • Graduate Students: Must possess a baccalaureate degree from, or be a confirmed graduating undergraduate senior at, an Institution of Higher Education (IHE) which must be accredited by a federally-recognized accrediting agency and must be located within the U.S. or its territories, both administratively as well as the campus the student attended

Student Application Requirements

All applications are due on a specified date. A complete application must contain:


  • SF 424 Individual Form
  • Student File Information Sheet
  • Official Transcripts
  • Resume
  • Two Letters of recommendation (one of the letters of recommender must be from the current Faculty Advisor)
  • Application Essays:
    • Personal Statement & Research Plan
    • Impact Statement
  • A valid copy of their Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) 1-20, "Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Status" 1-20, or "Permanent Resident Card" I-551 issued by the U.S. Immigration & Naturalization Service (INS)
