Program Overview
The Art program with a B.F.A. Option in Graphic Design is a comprehensive course of study that prepares students for a career in graphic design. To be considered for admission to the major, applicants must demonstrate the following requirements.
Admission Requirements
Applicants to the B.F.A. Option in Graphic Design must receive a positive recommendation from the faculty following review of a portfolio submitted by the applicant. The minimum cumulative GPA required for admission is 2.5.
Major Preparation Courses
The following suite of major preparation courses must be completed with a minimum GPA of 2.5:
- ART HISTORY 111A: Foundation Art History Prehistory - 1500
- ART HISTORY 111B: Foundation Art History 1300 - Present
- ART 130: Foundation Two-Dimensional
- ART 131: Foundation Three-Dimensional
- ART 181: Foundation Drawing
- ART 223: Introduction to Typography
General Education Requirements
In addition to the major preparation courses, students must also complete the required General Education courses, including:
- Written Communication
- Oral Communication
- Critical Thinking
- Mathematics
Program Details
The program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in graphic design, as well as a broad-based education in the arts. The curriculum includes a combination of studio courses, art history courses, and general education courses.
