Program Overview

The Child and Family Studies program, with an option in Child Development and Family Studies, is a comprehensive major that requires applicants to demonstrate specific admission criteria.

Admission Criteria

To be considered for admission to the major, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Minimum Cumulative GPA: 2.5
• Minimum lower-division preparation (grade of C or better required)

• Course Number: PSY 100 Course Title: General Psychology
• Course Number: CDFS 111 Course Title: Child Growth and Development

General Education Requirements

In addition to major preparation courses, students must complete the following general education courses:

• Oral Communication
• Mathematical Concepts and Quantitative Reasoning

Transfer applicants are recommended to take the following course:

• Course Number: CDFS 211 Course Title: Principles and Practices of Teaching Young Children Note: A grade of "C" or better is required for this course.
