Introduction to the "3+1+X" Joint Training Program

The "3+1+X" joint training program is a collaborative effort between Hong Kong City University and Taiyuan University of Technology. This program aims to provide students with a unique opportunity to combine academic and practical training, fostering a more flexible and open high-end talent cultivation system.

Program Overview

The "3+1+X" program is designed for undergraduate students from Taiyuan University of Technology. The program framework consists of three years of undergraduate study, one year of internship and engineering practice, and one to four years of master's or doctoral study. The fourth year of internship and engineering practice will be completed at the Hong Kong City University Qingdao Research Institute.

Hong Kong City University is a public research university located in Kowloon, Hong Kong. Founded in 1984, the university is committed to innovation and professional education, with a focus on research and solving global issues. The university has achieved excellent rankings in various global university rankings, including QS 2025 and Times Higher Education 2024 and 2025.

Program Duration

The program starts on September 1, 2026, and the end date will be determined based on the specific training program.

Selection Requirements

• Total requirements:
  • Taiyuan University of Technology full-time undergraduate students in their third or fourth year.
  • Meet the weighted average score and language requirements for the corresponding project.
• Professional application requirements:
  • Meet the application requirements for the corresponding academic system and department.
  • TOEFL iBT 79 or IELTS (6.0 for master's, 6.5 for doctoral).
  • University English Six Level (450 for master's, 490 for doctoral).
  • No English score is required for initial registration, but scores must be submitted later.

Application Process

1. Register and apply through the Hong Kong City University "3+1+X" joint training program application system.
2. The Hong Kong City University Qingdao Research Institute will review materials and conduct rolling interviews.
3. Admission notices will be issued by the Hong Kong City University Qingdao Research Institute.

Program Fees

• "+1" stage: Students pay tuition fees of Ą80,000 to the Hong Kong City University Qingdao Research Institute.
• "+X" stage: Tuition fees for master's or doctoral studies will be determined by the Hong Kong City University's corresponding department or college.
