BS Psychology Program

The BS Psychology program at Chapman University is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of psychological science and its applications.


Program Learning Outcomes

The program learning outcomes for the BS Psychology program are as follows:


  1. Psychology Content Knowledge and Application: Describe key concepts, principles, and theories in psychological science, develop a working knowledge of psychology's major subfields, understand that psychological science relies on empirical evidence and adapts as new data develop, and apply psychological content to solve practical problems.
  2. Scientific Inquiry, Critical Thinking, and Psychological Literacy: Exercise scientific reasoning to investigate psychological phenomena, develop skills to critically evaluate psychological ideas as presented in scientific and popular sources, understand research and data analytic methodologies commonly used in the psychological sciences, demonstrate proficiency in research and data analytic methodologies commonly used in the psychological sciences, understand advanced research methodologies in specific subdisciplines of psychology, and develop appropriate technological skills to use in academic and workplace settings.
  3. Oral and Written Communication: Cultivate professional collaboration skills, write and present effectively for different purposes and audiences, recognize and produce writing in the technical formats of the discipline, and understand normative practices for the communication of scientific findings in written and oral forms.
  4. Ethics and Values in Psychological Science: Apply the ethical standards of the discipline in academic, research, and/or practice contexts, understand how perceptions and biases filter experiences of the world, develop an understanding of the core values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field of psychological science, and apply psychological principles to change lives, organizations, or communities in positive ways.
