MFA Documentary Filmmaking
This is the Educational Effectiveness Evaluation Plan for the MFA Documentary Filmmaking program.
Learning Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate a mastery of documentary directing and storytelling skills, including the ability to visually and aurally tell a coherent and engaging story with a clear argument about real-world subjects and/or events.
- Students will demonstrate a mastery of documentary craft skills including shooting, editing, and sound recording, and the associated technology required for each.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to make informed decisions about representational and ethical matters regarding the subjects and/or events presented in their documentary work.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to fully and effectively research and develop their documentary projects prior to production.

Annual Learning Outcomes Assessment Report(s)
The faculty of the MFA Documentary Filmmaking program measure student attainment of program learning outcomes goals on an annual basis. The assessment processes used by this program are outlined in the Learning Outcomes Assessment Process document.
Program Review
Program review represents Chapman's commitment to excellence in academic programs through periodic review of educational effectiveness. Every 5 to 7 years, program faculty members prepare a self-study report, which is reviewed by external, expert reviewers, numerous Chapman faculty governance councils and committees, and the Office of the Provost. Program review provides an opportunity for each program to reflect on its educational effectiveness as well as its contribution to the university's mission and strategic plan. The results of program review guide institutional planning, budgeting, and decision-making.
