Program Overview
Introduction to the Voice Lab Program
The Wilfrid Laurier University's Faculty of Music is pleased to announce the return of Voice Lab for Spring 2026, titled "The Art of Crossing Over." This intensive five-day workshop is designed for voice students and singers in the wider community who want to deepen their vocal technique and artistic versatility beyond the regular academic year.
Program Details
Overview
Voice Lab 2026 brings together classical and music theatre singers, encouraging exploration across genres and focused cross-training. The concentrated nature of the week allows for meaningful, often accelerated progress through individualized instruction, collaborative coaching, and group learning.
What's Included
Participants will engage in:
- Daily yoga sessions
- Multiple one-on-one voice lessons
- Coaching sessions with collaborative pianists
- Masterclasses
- Workshops including Linklater work, Body Mapping, crossover technique, improvisation, and character building
- Community-building events such as a faculty-student BBQ
- A final concert featuring all participants

Dates
The program will take place from May 19-23, 2026 (inclusive).

Full days, with a schedule provided in advance.
Location
The program will be held at the Faculty of Music, Wilfrid Laurier University.
Fee
The fee for the program is $650.

Registrations are due April 30 at 11:59 p.m.
Sample Workshops
Body Mapping for Teachers
Body Mapping Educator Kimberly Barber leads this class through the basics of Body Mapping for singers, giving concrete, experiential examples for laying a foundation of anatomical understanding and body function to support healthy music making.
Yoga for Singers
Certified yoga instructor and pianist Anna Ronai leads this session focused on opening breath and body to support freedom in singing.
Linklater Voice
This ground-breaking method was developed by Kristin Linklater to provide actors with the tools to explore freedom and authenticity within human vocal expression.

Sample Schedule
A finalized schedule will be sent before the event. A sample day includes:
- 9 - 10 a.m.: Yoga with Anna Ronai
- 10 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.: Revolving lessons with voice faculty
- 10 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.: Revolving coachings with coaches
- 12:15 - 1 p.m.: Lunch Break
- 1 - 4 p.m.: Group Classes
- 4 - 5 p.m.: Debrief Chat/End of day wrap up
