Introduction to the Combined English and Film Studies Program
The Combined English and Film Studies program is a unique academic partnership between Laurier and Vancouver Film School. This program allows students to complete a combined English (BA) and Film Studies (BA) degree from Laurier and may be eligible for admission into the Writing for Film, Television, and Games diploma from Vancouver Film School.
Program Structure
The standard academic schedule for this program is as follows:
- Year 1: Attend Laurier
- Year 2: Attend Laurier
- Year 3: Attend Vancouver Film School
- Year 4: Attend Laurier
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for this program, students must meet the following requirements:
- Maintain a minimum overall GPA of 5.0
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 5.0 in English and Film Studies
- Complete a minimum of 10.0 credits overall
- Complete a minimum of 1.5 credits in English and 1.5 credits in Film Studies
Anticipated Transfer Credits
The Writing for Film, Television, and Games program at Vancouver Film School counts as 5.0 credits of Laurier's Combined Honours English and Film Studies program, broken down as follows:
- 0.5 credit: English (200 level)
- 0.5 credit: English (300 level)
- 0.5 credit: Film (200 or 300 level)
- FS374: Screenwriting & Directing
- 3.0 credits: Interdisciplinary (200 or 300 level)
Academic Partnership Details
Students participating in this academic partnership must declare their intent to apply for the Vancouver Film School academic partnership pathway at the end of Year 1. They will work with their academic advisor to meet the requirements outlined in the academic calendar. To enrol in courses at Vancouver Film School, students must obtain a Letter of Permission by submitting the online request form. Students must be in good standing in their program and have completed the minimum credits required.
