Program Overview
Introduction to the Environmental Design Program
The Environmental Design program is affiliated with the Design and Creativity College of Zhejiang Normal University. The program originated from the Environmental Art Design direction of the Art Design major, established in 1999. In 2012, the program was upgraded to an independent major, and in 2021, it was approved as a provincial-level first-class undergraduate major construction site. The program currently recruits over 40 undergraduate students annually and has a master's degree program in Design, with an Environmental Art Design research direction, recruiting around 15 master's students each year.
Program Objectives and Features
The Environmental Design program aims to cultivate students' professional skills, innovative practice abilities, creative thinking abilities, and interdisciplinary vision. The program focuses on developing students' capabilities in environmental design creation, research, and knowledge application, enabling them to work in design education, environmental design research, and related institutions.
The program has made significant contributions to local economic construction, combining professional development with local environmental construction needs. It has formed a distinctive feature by emphasizing rural environmental culture research and design, campus environmental culture research and design, and local architecture and regional culture research and design.
Teaching Conditions and Platforms
The Environmental Design program has a team of 12 full-time teachers, including 2 professors, 3 associate professors, and 6 doctors, as well as 1 national high-end foreign expert and 10 part-time teachers. The program has a "research center" format, which brings together a cross-professional team of teachers from different backgrounds, including environmental design, architecture, urban and rural planning, landscape architecture, and sculpture.

The program has various teaching and research platforms, including the Zhejiang Normal University Rural Landscape Culture Research Center, the Zhejiang Normal University Cultural Creativity and Industry Research Center, and the Zhejiang Normal University Information Transmission Center.
Employment Prospects
Graduates of the Environmental Design program have the ability to work in design services and design management, as well as in teaching and research in various institutions. According to employment statistics, around 50% of graduates are employed by well-known companies in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou, and after several years of experience, most become the backbone of their companies.
Course Highlights
Village and Town Landscape Planning and Design
This course focuses on the national new rural development strategy, guiding students to pay attention to rural human settlements and environmental construction, and to establish a concept of harmonious development between humans and nature. Through the excavation of local cultural connotations, the course helps students understand and master the basic principles, methods, and techniques of landscape investigation, analysis, evaluation, decision-making, planning, and design.
Environmental Engineering Project Practice
This course is a comprehensive design project research course, which enables students to conduct a comprehensive design project study. The course takes students as the main body, with solving practical problems as the task orientation, allowing students to fully choose and utilize optimized learning resources, and to obtain comprehensive knowledge and specialized skills through practice, internalization, and exploration.
