Unit Description
Promotes the continued development and translation of theory into practice with a focus on women and babies requiring complex antenatal and intrapartum care. It provides theory and skill development as well as specific clinical learning objectives aligned with the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards.
Unit Content
- Midwifery knowledge, skills and scope of practice in safely administering medication and blood products
- Communication, collaboration, and partnership within the maternity unit with the woman and other health professionals to ensure positive health outcomes for women with complex care needs in the antenatal period.
- Communication, collaboration and partnership within the maternity unit with the woman and other health professionals to ensure positive health outcomes for women with complex care needs in the intrapartum period.
- The midwife's role, responsibility, and accountability for recognition of and response to the deteriorating maternal patient and or fetus/infant

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
- Show intermediate abilities to translate research and theory into practice through written and verbal communication mode
- Demonstrate intermediate understandings of the legal, ethical, cultural and professional frameworks through reflection on practice
- Demonstrate competency in medication safety, blood management, and recognising and responding to acute deterioration, in a simulated environment
- Demonstrate a satisfactory level of progression towards the ANMAC Midwifery Professional Experiences (MPE) requirements
