- Enrolment information: This unit includes a compulsory residential at an SCU campus in week 6. Students must successfully complete the residentials before progressing to placement. Those unable to attend should enrol in this unit only when they are able to participate in the required residentials.
Unit Description
Develops knowledge and skills related to foundational evidence-based behavioural and cognitive interventions to support children and adolescents with psychological and developmental disorders. Advanced therapeutic approaches and professional psychological issues will be explored with an emphasis on the development of a critical approach to psychological practice. A case-based methodology will support treatment planning for various child and adolescent disorders. The unit provides students with an opportunity to practice skills relating to the delivery of brief psychological interventions.

Learning Outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
- develop culturally responsive psychological treatment plans in collaboration with the client considering social and cultural background, and engage in interprofessional communication
- conduct professional interviews and assessments, and synthesise information from multiple sources to select evidence-based approaches to intervention for psychological and developmental disorders
- critically analyse literature to support continued learning and evidence-based skill acquisition in developing and delivering brief and more complex psychotherapeutic interventions, including assessing and monitoring the client's risk, progress and outcomes
- develop psychologically appropriate goals while assessing and monitoring the risk, progress and outcomes
