Course Description

The course enables students to acquire theoretical knowledge and apply it in scientific-research work.


Course Goals

The goal of the course is to equip students with fundamental knowledge from certain areas and to enable them to apply modern methods in calculations of hydrotechnical objects and systems.

  • Dynamics of fluid movement
  • Connections between stress and deformation: Navier-Stokes equations
  • Turbulence
  • Laminar and turbulent flow
  • Dimensionality of problems: 1D, 2D, and 3D
  • Steady and unsteady flow in open channels and pressure systems
  • Physical laws of fluid movement in soil
  • Hydraulics of wells - basic and advanced analytical models of steady and unsteady flow
  • Numerical modeling of steady and unsteady flow using the finite difference method
  • Numerical modeling of unsteady flow using the finite element method
  • Short objects - local changes in flow
