Program Overview
Raspberry Pi Jump Start Program
The Raspberry Pi Jump Start program is an initiative offered by the College of Computing and Software Engineering. This program is designed to introduce participants to the Raspberry Pi computer and guide them through the process of setting up and using the device.
Program Overview
The program begins with a series of steps that participants must follow to get started with their Raspberry Pi. These steps include gathering the necessary materials, flashing an operating system onto the microSD card, and plugging in the various components.
Gathering Materials
To participate in the program, participants will need to gather the following materials:
- Access to a desktop or laptop computer, MacOS or Windows
- Access to a network connection, wired or wireless
- A microSD card; 16 GB is plenty, be sure to get Class 10
- A USB adapter for that microSD card
- A Raspberry Pi Computer
- A power supply for your Pi; be sure what you get matches the Pi you have
- A USB keyboard and mouse
- An HDMI monitor with cable, or some other monitor and adapter cable
- A case for your Pi (optional)
- Maybe a parts kit (optional)
Flashing the Operating System
Participants will need to download balenaEtcher and an operating system image. They will then use balenaEtcher and the USB adapter to flash the image to their microSD card.
Setting Up the Raspberry Pi
Once the operating system has been flashed onto the microSD card, participants can begin setting up their Raspberry Pi. This includes plugging in the various components, such as the keyboard, mouse, and HDMI cable.
Configuring the Raspberry Pi
After the Raspberry Pi has been set up, participants will need to configure it. This includes going through the setup process, which will guide them through the necessary steps to get their Raspberry Pi up and running.
Program Outcome
The outcome of the Raspberry Pi Jump Start program is to provide participants with a fully functional Raspberry Pi computer that they can use for various projects and applications. The program is designed to be a starting point for those who are new to the Raspberry Pi and want to learn more about its capabilities and potential uses.
