Program Overview
Introduction to the Dual Enrollment Program
The Dual Enrollment Program (DEP) at Kennesaw State University provides an outstanding opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to get a head start on college. DEP students take college classes in lieu of high school classes, earning college and high school credits simultaneously. They may also participate in student activities at both KSU and their high schools.
Program Details
DEP students can take KSU courses in various subjects, including:
- English
- Mathematics
- Social sciences
- Science
- Foreign languages
These students make the transition to university life in a familiar, supportive environment. They attend DEP advising sessions twice per year to be advised on their selection of courses. Additionally, DEP students attend a special summer orientation session and register for classes before most other students. Housing on campus is available for students who desire it.
Benefits and Transferability
DEP courses transfer easily to most public colleges and universities, as well as many private colleges. The program offers several benefits, including accelerated learning and academic challenge, cost savings, and a smoother transition from high school to college.
Admission and Participation
To participate in the program, students do not need to submit a new dual enrollment application for every semester. However, they must meet with their dual enrollment advisor prior to registering for each semester. Dual enrollment students are responsible for certain costs, such as:
- Parking
- Lab fees
- Self-pay courses
- Proctored exams
- Meal plans (optional)
- Non-required course materials
Students are allotted 15 funded credit hours per semester. Any additional courses they wish to add to their dual enrollment schedule must be approved by their high school counselor first.
Grading and Transcript Reflection
KSU reports only letter grades. Each school district has its own conversion policy for converting these letter grades to numeric grades for the high school transcript. Students should speak with their high school counselor for more specific information on this process.
Accommodations and Support
If a student received accommodations for a disability in high school, they will need to contact KSU's Student Disability Services to arrange for similar accommodations at the university level.
Online Courses and Funding
Dual enrollment students can take online courses at Kennesaw State. Dual enrollment funding does not affect HOPE or Zell Miller funding hours.
Transition to Degree-Seeking Admission
After graduating from high school, students who wish to remain at KSU will need to complete the dual enrollment to degree-seeking admission application.
