Program Overview


Program Description

Kennesaw State University's online Gifted Education Certificate is based on the philosophy that gifted children and youth exist within all ethnic, geographic, and socioeconomic groups and are individually unique with differing abilities. The program is offered through the Bagwell College of Education and is a State Board of Education (SBOE) approved program.


Program Details

  • The program is 100% online and consists of 4 courses, totaling 12 credit hours.
  • Courses are offered on a rotating basis, and students may begin the sequence in either Summer or Fall semester.
  • The program grants an in-field endorsement from the State Board of Education.
  • To be eligible for the program, applicants must possess a professional certificate at the bachelor's or higher certification level in any teaching field.
  • A valid teaching certificate is required for eligibility in Georgia.

Program of Study

The program consists of the following courses:


  • Characteristics of Gifted Children: An introductory course exploring the foundations and history of gifted education.
  • INED 7766 - Methods and Materials for Teaching Gifted Children: A course mastering the necessary skills and knowledge to provide appropriate curriculum and instruction to students identified as eligible for gifted services.
  • INED 7767 - Assessment of Gifted Children and Youth: A course mastering the necessary skills and knowledge to identify and assess students for gifted services in the K-12 setting.
  • INED 7768 - Curriculum Development and Program Design in Gifted Education: A course investigating, describing, and conducting a needs assessment in the current school and district context, then creating a program for effectively serving identified gifted students.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the program, applicants must:


  1. Complete an online Graduate Application
  2. Pay a $60 non-refundable application processing fee
  3. Submit official transcripts from each college or university attended
  4. Hold a Bachelor's degree from a Regionally Accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 2.75
  5. Meet additional requirements by program
