Master's Program in Psychotherapy
The Master's program in Psychotherapy is a new academic program introduced as part of the revised Psychotherapy Act of 2024 in Austria. This program is the second phase of the three-part training to become a psychotherapist.
Program Overview
The program aims to qualify students for the subsequent postgraduate training part according to the Psychotherapy Act 2024 and for a further academic career, such as a doctoral or PhD program. The program is offered at several universities in Austria, with a total of 500 available spots nationwide, 200 of which are allocated to the Mid-West region.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the Master's program in Psychotherapy, applicants must have completed a relevant Bachelor's degree. Detailed information on the admission requirements can be found in the program's guidelines.
Admission Procedure
Due to the limited number of available spots, an admission procedure is in place. Interested students must register online at their preferred university location between March 2 and April 7, 2026, and complete an online self-assessment. The application is considered complete upon payment of the 80 fee. If the number of applicants exceeds the available spots, a written admission test will be held on July 6, 2026. Spots will be allocated based on the test results, with at least 95% of the spots going to EU citizens or equivalents and at least 75% to individuals with an Austrian (or equivalent) high school diploma.
Available Spots
The distribution of the 200 available spots in the Mid-West region is as follows:
- University of Innsbruck/Medical University of Innsbruck: 100 spots
- University of Salzburg: 50 spots
- Johannes Kepler University of Linz: 50 spots
