Program Overview


Introduction to the Helene Wastl Medicine Mentoring Programme

The Helene Wastl Medicine Mentoring Programme is designed for female doctors in specialist training, female postdoctoral students, female participants in postgraduate programmes (PhDs), and female post-doctoral students in medicine and natural sciences.

Programme Length and Structure

  • The programme lasts for 2 semesters.
  • It includes a total of 6 x 2 hours of 1:1 mentoring meetings.
  • Participants must attend 5 workshops of 2 days each from the Helene-Wastl seminar programme.
  • An introductory event is also part of the programme.

Methodology

  • One-to-One Mentoring: Each mentee is paired with a qualified female mentor for personalized guidance and support.
  • Accompanying further training programmes: Participants have access to additional training programmes conducted by qualified external female partners to develop career-relevant key competencies and soft skills.
  • Peer Mentoring: The programme fosters the development of horizontal peer networks among mentees for mutual support and exchange.
  • Regular Network Meetings: These meetings provide a platform for exchange, reflection, and self-empowerment among participants.

What is Mentoring?

Mentoring is an instrument for systematic personal and personality development. It involves a sponsorship relationship between an experienced female mentor and her learning mentee, where the mentor shares insider knowledge, experience, and valuable contacts to support the mentee's career development.


Application Process

  • The application form must be fully completed and submitted by the specified deadline (May 15th).
  • Required application documents include:
    • A fully completed application form for mentees.
    • A curriculum vitae, including a list of publications.
  • Admission to the programme requires sufficient knowledge of German, as the seminar programme is only offered in German.

Seminar Programme

The Helene Wastl Medical Mentoring Program offers a comprehensive seminar program for career development, personal development, and networking. Participation in the lectures is mandatory, and a certificate of participation can only be issued if an 80% attendance requirement is met.

  • Seminar 4: Leadership in Science: March 2-3, 2026.
  • Seminar 5: Resilience in Everyday Working Life and Time Management: April 14-15, 2026.

Helene Wastl Club

The Helene Wastl Club, established in 2006, aims to promote the networking of committed female doctors and scientists. It focuses on the exchange of experiences, mutual support in peer mentoring, and building relationships to facilitate access to career-promoting networks.

Helene Wastl - The Namesake

Helene Wastl was a pioneer in the medical sciences, being one of the first women to pursue studies, a scientific career, and international mobility. She was chosen as the namesake and symbolic mentor for the Innsbruck Medical Mentoring Programme in appreciation of her achievements.
