MSc Vascular Ultrasound in Diagnosis and Management

The MSc Vascular Ultrasound in Diagnosis and Management is a postgraduate program offered by the Faculty of Medicine, University of Thessaly. This program is designed for clinicians and medical scientists who wish to receive training in the theory and practice of vascular ultrasound.

Program Overview

The program aims to provide participants with up-to-date and high-level training in screening, diagnosis, and functional investigation of vascular diseases, postoperative follow-up, as well as training in minimally invasive ultrasound-guided vascular disease treatment. Upon completion of the program, students will have gained in-depth knowledge and clinical skills required to work in the field of vascular ultrasound, becoming confident and competent ultrasound practitioners.

Program Structure

The program consists of 18 months (3 semesters) of study, with a delivery style that combines online lectures and in-person practice. The program is taught in English.

Admission Criteria

The program welcomes students from all over the world, considering all applicants on an individual basis. The qualification for admission includes graduates from Faculties of Medicine with or without specialty, as well as graduates from Schools of Health Sciences involved in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

Teaching Methods

The teaching methods used in the program include:

Course Timetable

The theoretical online teaching is divided into 6 different modules, each lasting 2 days. There are two one-week hands-on practice sessions, one in January and the other in June, which take place in the university's center or a certified vascular laboratory.

• 1st semester:
  • Basic principles: Introduction to ultrasonic investigation
  • Carotid and vertebrobasilar system
  • Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA) & Peripheral Arterial Aneurysms Visceral Artery Disease
  • Upper extremity arterial disease
  • MAP Practice
• 2nd semester:
  • Lower extremity arterial occlusive disease (AOD)
  • Venous thrombosis Chronic venous disease
  • AV fistulas
  • US-guided procedures
  • MBP Practice
• 3rd semester:
  • MSc Thesis Research Methodology

Tuition Fees

The tuition fees for the program are 5,000 euros, divided into:

• 1st Semester: 2,000 euros
• 2nd Semester: 2,000 euros
• 3rd Semester: 1,000 euros

Award

Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded a Master of Sciences (MSc) degree.
