Program Overview


Introduction to the Program

The University of Thessaly's Center for Training and Lifelong Learning introduces a new educational program titled "Specialization in Anesthesiology, Intensive Care, Surgery, Ophthalmology, and Imaging Diagnostic of Animals (Third Cycle)". This program aims to improve the professional characteristics and knowledge of those already working or wishing to work in the field of animal medicine.


Program Objectives

The primary objective of this program is to provide specialized education and training to participants in the areas of anesthesiology, intensive care, surgery, ophthalmology, and imaging diagnostics of animals. The program seeks to specialize participants, giving them the opportunity to update their knowledge and skills in managing clinical cases.


Target Audience

The educational program is addressed to graduates of Veterinary Schools who wish to work in the field of animal medicine, as well as to graduates of Veterinary Schools who are already professionally engaged with the subject.


Program Structure

The program is a 12-month (1,500 hours) in-person educational program, equivalent to 60 ECTS. Participants will compulsorily attend the first 6 months of the Basic Educational Program (Unit 1) and then can choose either the Basic Educational Program (Unit 2) or one of the Units 3 to 7.

  • Unit 3: Educational Program for the Certificate of Specialized Training in Ophthalmology
  • Unit 4: Educational Program for the Certificate of Specialized Training in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care
  • Unit 5: Educational Program for the Certificate of Specialized Training in Imaging Diagnostics of Animals
  • Unit 6: Educational Program for the Certificate of Specialized Training in Equine Medicine
  • Unit 7: Educational Program for the Certificate of Specialized Training in Orthopedics and Soft Tissue Surgery

Tuition Fees and Discounts

The tuition fees for the program are set at 600 Euros, payable in two installments. A 20% discount is applied to individuals who fall into one of the following categories:


  • Members of large, three-child, or single-parent families
  • Family members with a disability of 67% or higher
  • Unemployed individuals

Important Dates

  • Extension of Registrations: Until 23/02/2026
  • Start of Training: March 2026
  • End of Training: March 2027
