Program Overview


Introduction to the Program

The University of Thessaly's Center for Training and Lifelong Learning introduces a new educational program titled "Applications of Biomedical Technology in Seriously Ill Patients (EBITES)". This hybrid program aims to provide specialized knowledge and skills as a comprehensive training program, enabling the utilization of advanced technology systems as an integral component in daily clinical practice.


Program Objectives

The primary objectives of the program are:


  • To acquire theoretical specialized knowledge of the possibilities and functions of advanced technological medical equipment in nephrology and seriously ill patients.
  • To acquire practical skills for the utilization of medical equipment in diagnosis, treatment, and support of nephrological and seriously ill patients. Additional objectives include:
  • Understanding the basic principles of electronics and mechanics.
  • Acquiring knowledge of measurement taking, measurement errors, and characteristic quantities, a subset of which includes medical devices.
  • Acquiring knowledge regarding the acquisition of signals from the organism, known as biosignals, which can be electrical or non-electrical biosignals.
  • Acquiring knowledge regarding the processing of biosignals acquired from the organism.
  • Acquiring knowledge of the development of instruments, methods, and algorithms for biosignal processing.
  • Acquiring knowledge of the transmission of biosignals to specialized centers for further evaluation.

Target Audience

The program is addressed to:


  • Doctors of specialties in Intensive Care, Emergency Medicine, Anesthesiology, Pneumology, Pathology, General Medicine, Nephrology, Cardiology, Pediatrics, and Physiatrists, as well as doctors of other specialties.
  • Nurses in intensive care units, increased care units, and Artificial Kidney units, Physiotherapists.
  • Administrative staff whose work is in rehabilitation centers, health centers, kidney units, increased care units, or in administrative positions in similar structures and want to deepen their knowledge in this field.
  • University graduates working in health structures.
  • Students of health science departments (a prerequisite is to have completed the obligations of the E.Y. courses).

Training Methodology

The program will utilize a hybrid method, including:


  • Distance learning through synchronous and asynchronous lectures
  • In-person classes

Enrollment

Applications can be submitted only through the program's website, and there is a limited number of places available. If the positions are filled earlier, the application platform will close before the predetermined deadline for registrations.


Important Dates

  • Extension of Enrollment: Until March 31, 2025
  • Start of Training: April 2025
  • End of Training: October 2025

Cost

The total cost of the educational program is 590. Payment can be made either: A) in full before enrollment, B) in 3 installments: 200 before enrollment, 200 3 months after enrollment, 190 before the final evaluation


A 15% discount policy applies for young cardholders.

The scientific responsibility for the design and implementation of this educational program is borne by Professor Demosthenes Makris, Professor of Intensive Care at the University of Thessaly. The academic responsibility of this educational program is borne by Professor Ioannis Stefanidis, Professor of Medicine at the University of Thessaly.
