Athletic Training Program

The Athletic Training program at Central Michigan University is a comprehensive program designed to prepare students for a career in athletic training. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education and is one of the first sports medicine majors of its kind in the United States.

Program Overview

The program is a 3+2 program, which includes three years of undergraduate courses and two years of graduate courses, earning students both a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training (BSAT) and a Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT). Students begin in the pre-professional phase of the program and must apply for the professional phase once at CMU. Acceptance into the professional phase is necessary to complete the BSAT/MSAT program.

  • Serious savings on tuition: Students save big by paying the undergraduate tuition rate when taking graduate-level courses in year four.
  • A track record of success: The program has a nearly 50-year history of excellence in athletic training education, with students achieving a 100% first-time pass rate on the national certification test.
  • Diverse clinical opportunities: Clinical education experiences include a collegiate athletic training setting, outreach rehabilitation setting, supplemental setting, and two immersive settings.
  • Explore the cutting edge of healthcare research: Students can dive into human anatomy, sports medicine research, and more in the state-of-the-art Health Professions Building.
  • Boost your financial aid: Students can apply for scholarships like the Shingles Family Leadership Athletic Training Scholarship, the Reed Phillips Athletic Training Award, and more.
